German Start-ups to Look Out for in 2022
Germany has no shortage of start-ups. To compile a list of the German start-ups to keep an eye on in 2022, we looked at a variety of factors, including innovation, growth, and company goals. Here are seven German start-ups to look out for in 2022
Founders: Osnat Michaeli, Guy Galonska, and Erez Galonska
Headquartered in Berlin, Germany, Infarm has been changing the way the world thinks about farming since 2013. Using vertical farming technology that allows for a unique climate-controlled environment, Infarm is able to grow a variety of produce anytime and anywhere. This mobility translates to fresh, local produce free of pesticides since it does not need to travel thousands of miles. Quality food that’s also kind to the environment? Yes, please! Infarm is set to grow their farming network even further in 2022.
Founders: Dr. Alexander Hüttenbrink and Dr. Oliver Trinchera
Founded in 2012 by former scientists of the Technical University of Munich, software start-up KINEXON is paving the way with their advanced full-stack solutions in real-time intelligence. Their products, including the KINEXON X-Tag, have already made monumental impacts in various industries, as well as the world of sports and entertainment. Their long-term goal is to further the possibility of fast and efficient, automatic communication between people and processes—an admirable goal indeed. For this reason, KINEXON is a start-up to look out for in 2022.
Founders: Karina Buschsieweke, Dr. Thomas Lutterbeck, and Dr. Rami-Habib Eid-Sabbagh
Karina Buschsieweke, Dr. Thomas Lutterbeck, and Dr. Rami-Habib Eid-Sabbagh have been leading this Berlin-based start-up since 2016. LANA Labs is transforming business processes with their innovative process mining software. Designed to save time and cut costs, the LANA Process Mining is the first software to provide automated target-actual analysis. In 2021, LANA Labs was acquired by leading low-code automation platform Appian making it even more worthwhile to watch out for in 2022.
Founder: Nicole Büttner
Another young start-up on our list is Berlin-based Merantix Labs, which was founded in 2020 by Nicole Büttner. Offering a wide range of services, from ready-made products, custom projects, and AI training, Merantix Labs strives to help companies build business value with the use of AI. Furthermore, the growing startup is aspiring to develop AI software that is not just useful but also ethical. The world needs more of Merantix Labs unique approach to AI. Be sure to keep an eye out for them in 2022.

Since its founding in 2015, Berlin-based Omni:us has become a leader in addressing insurance claims through the use of cutting-edge AI. What’s more impressive, is Omni:us’s CEO and co-founder, Sofie Quidenus-Wahlforss. One of Forbes magazine’s ‘The World’s Top 50 Women in Tech 2018’, Sophie is a successful entrepreneur and started her first business at the age of 21! With Sophie at its helm, we can only expect great things to come for Omni:us in 2022.
Founders: Diana Rees and Amine Ünal
Completely female-founded, ZkSystems aims to provide low-cost, intuitive, and pragmatic innovation to help with the efficiency of software integration in manufacturing. Since their beginnings in 2018, ZkSystems has landed major clients including companies like Siemens and Bosch Rexroth. With a strong vision and focus on innovation, ZkSystems is sure to grow even further in 2022.
Founders: Benedikt Franke and Anna Alex
Founded in 2019, technology start-up Planetly is already making significant waves in helping to build a carbon neutral economy. Planetly’s software is designed to help businesses find paths to enacting net zero practices. Companies including HelloFresh and home24 are already homing in on Planetly’s innovative software. With climate action sure to only become more and more crucial in the future, Planetly is on the path to expand even further in 2022.
